Today, Ukraine celebrates the birthday of Taras Shevchenko, an artist, poet, and Ukraine\u2019s national hero whose works became a manifesto for Ukrainians’ strive of freedom. Having been imprisoned three times for anti-imperial publications, and having spent 10 years in exile, Shevchenko has started a long tradition of Ukrainian resistance towards Russian imperialism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shevchenko\u2019s paintings and poems reflected Ukrainians\u2019 fight for their identity. That is why his image became contemporary during the Revolution of Dignity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now, Shevchenko is honored and translated all over the world. And what is even more important, his works still strengthen the will of the Ukrainian people in their fight for freedom and inspire Ukrainian defenders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
