Russia is on the offensive in the Avdiyivka and Kupyansk directions, according to Ukraine\u2019s General Staff. A Russian cluster munition attack on Chornobayivka kills three. Ukrenergo requests emergency assistance from three countries to cover power deficit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ukraine\u2019s defense forces repelled 30 attacks in the Avdiyivka direction and 12 attacks in the Kupyansk direction in the past day, the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces said in a morning update on Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On November 22, there were 74 combat engagements. Russian forces launched three missile strikes, 43 air strikes, and more than 64 attacks from multiple launch rocket systems at Ukrainian troops\u2019 positions and civilian areas, the General Staff said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Overnight on November 22, Russia launched another drone strike on Ukraine, using 14 Shahed-136\/131 drones. Ukraine\u2019s air defenses destroyed all of them. The drone strikes have unfortunately caused civilian casualties and damaged private houses and other civilian sites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Russian forces launched air strikes at Kharkiv, Luhansk, and Donetsk regions. They also targeted more than 100 villages and towns of Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovska, and Kherson regions with artillery fire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the General Staff, in the past day, Russia lost 1,130 troops, 20 tanks, 36 armored vehicles, 33 artillery systems, three multiple launch rocket systems, and two air defense systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A Russian attack using cluster munitions killed three people in Chornobayivka, in Kherson region, Ukrainian President Zelenskyi\u2019s Chief of Staff Andriy Yermak said on Thursday afternoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe Russians shelled Chornobayivka, in Kherson region. According to preliminary reports, the attack used cluster munitions. It claimed the lives, as we know, of three people and injured four others,\u201d Yermak said on Telegram.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Later, the Kherson regional prosecutor\u2019s office said two men and a woman were killed in the attack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a separate episode, at around 11:30 local time, a Russian drone strike on Beryslav, in Kherson region, killed a man who was driving a bicycle, head of the Kherson regional military administration, Oleksandr Prokudin said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the evening of November 22, Ukrainian national electricity operator Ukrenergo asked system operators in Romania, Slovakia and Poland to provide emergency assistance, Volodymyr Kudrytskyi, the chief executive officer of Ukrenergo said on Ukrainian television.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cUkrenergo had to request emergency assistance from neighboring countries. During the three evening hours of the highest demand we took emergency assistance from Slovakia, Poland, and Romania. It has helped us balance our power system today,\u201d Kudrytskyi said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the following days, energy deficit could stay due to a steep rise in consumption caused by a drop in temperatures, he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
While the energy grid still has reserves to increase power generation, urgent repair work was launched to fix several units [of power plants] in the past days, Kudrytskyi explained. They are expected to be quickly put back into operation. Scheduled repairs at other units will end soon, he added. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Energy deficit was reported in Ukraine\u2019s power system on November 22. Ukrenergo has called for reduced energy consumption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
