Ukraine recaptures Novomykhaylivka, throws Russia back in Zelenyi Hai. Ukraine and Canada sign a deal on joint defense production.

Ukraine develops missiles that can travel 1,000-3,000 kilometers

Ukraine has likely revealed a new long-range missile, the Long Neptune that can strike targets around 1,000 kilometers away. On Sunday, the state-run online platform for weapons manufacturers, Zbroya, released a video of a missile with folding X-shaped wings without identifying it. Ukrainian military news site Defense Express said it was a longer version of Ukraine’s R-360 Neptune anti-ship cruise missile.

This is the first time it was shown to the public. The missile differs from the others in having the wings shaped like that. The Long Neptune has a range of 1,000 kilometers and can strike ground targets. The missile exceeds six meters in length, without the booster. It is 1.5 meters longer than the R-360.

The diameter of the missile body in its central part increased from 38 cm to around 50 cm. The Long Neptune is not only longer but also wider, likely to accommodate greater fuel capacity.

The nose cone and tail section have not been modified. The wing and tail surfaces have been enlarged, presumably to balance the higher take-off weight.

The original missile carried a 150-kilogram warhead, the figure for the Long Neptune is unknown.

The weapon was originally designed as an anti-ship missile but has been adapted during the war to hit land targets. Details about the missile program became public knowledge in November 2023.

In March 2025, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi said the Long Neptune had been tested and successfully used in combat.

The Flamingo FP-5 long-range cruise missile, developed by Ukraine’s Fire Point defense company, is capable of traveling 3,000 kilometers. Its photo was released in mid-August by AP photographer Yefrem Lukatskyi. The missile was photographed in an undisclosed location.

President Zelenskyi hopes the Flamingo will be mass-produced early next year.

The new Flamingo cruise missile is a promising development that can impact Ukraine’s ability to strike deep inside Russia, Patrick Bolder, strategic analyst at The Hague Center for Strategic Studies (HCSS) and retired Lieutenant-Colonel from the Royal Netherlands Air Force told Ukrinform exclusively.

“The range is 3,000 km, the warhead weighs between 1,000 and 1,500 kg. This is quite a significant capability they have developed. Production is expected to increase to seven units per day. Thus, if you accumulate a few days of production, you can have about 50 cruise missiles in a week. If they are launched simultaneously at a target, the Russians will have to shoot them down from the air, and that will be quite difficult,” Bolder said.

The Flamingo is a classic aerial bomb converted into a cruise missile by adding a jet engine, fuselage, and wings, he added. As a result, Ukraine has obtained a highly effective long-range strike weapon.

“This is quite serious power, which can cause significant damage deep in the enemy’s rear. And, as I understand, what’s important — it is relatively cheap to produce,” Bolder said.

Ukraine recaptures Novomykhaylivka, throws Russia back in Zelenyi Hai

Ukrainian troops have recaptured the village of Novomykhaylivka and have thrown Russian forces back in Zelenyi Hai, in Donetsk region, DeepState, a Ukrainian OSINT project, said on Monday.

Russia has advanced in Udachne, in the Pokrovsk direction in Donetsk region and near Sobolivka, in the Kupyansk direction, in Kharkiv region, the report said.

There were 159 combat engagements in the past day, the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces said in a morning update on Monday. Most of them took place in the Pokrovsk direction, where Ukrainian troops stopped 46 enemy assaults, it added.

Ukraine’s defense intelligence said on Sunday it had staged a joint operation with the Third Army Corps to recapture Novomykhaylivka. Russia lost the equivalent of around a company of soldiers in the fighting, it added.

On Sunday, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, General Oleksandr Syrskyi said Ukrainian troops had mopped up three villages in Donetsk region — Mykhaylivka, Zelenyi Hai and Volodymyrivka of Russian forces.

Ukraine, Canada sign deal on joint defense production

Ukraine and Canada have inked a deal on joint defense production.

Ukraine’s Defense Minister, Denys Shmyhal, and Canada’s Minister of National Defense, David McGuinty, signed the agreement in Kyiv on Ukraine’s Independence Day, on Sunday. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney were present during the ceremony.

The agreement is intended to enhance bilateral defense industry cooperation, develop and expand production facilities in both Ukraine and Canada, and ensure the resilience and continuity of defense product supplies, a statement by the Ukrainian Defense Ministry said.

“It is important that today’s agreements will not only support the establishment of Ukrainian companies in Canada and foster technology exchange, but also ensure that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are provided with modern weapons and military equipment in the long term,” Shmyhal said.

“The signed document will bolster Ukraine’s resilience and capability to withstand the Russian threat. We thank Canada for solidarity and unwavering support for Ukraine as we continue our battle for freedom and independence,” he added.

Speaking during a ceremony to mark Ukraine’s Independence Day on Sunday, Carney said Ukraine would receive more than CAD 1 billion (USD 723 million) in military aid from a previously announced package next month.

At the G7 meeting in June, Canada pledged an additional two billion dollars in military assistance to Ukraine.

“Today I am proud to announce that over 1 billion of that support will be used to strengthen your arsenal with urgently needed drones, ammunition, armored vehicles, material that will arrive next month,” Carney said.

Canada will also provide tens of millions of new funding to support emergency medical and shelter assistance initiatives to strengthen local democracy, including to counter digital attacks, he explained.

“Putin can be stopped. Russia’s economy is weakening. He is becoming more isolated. And our alliance is hardening.
