Russian attacks on Konotop, Dnipro result in casualties<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

One person was killed and 11 others wounded in a Russian drone strike on the city of Konotop in Sumy region overnight on Wednesday. Russia used 12 drones in the attack, the regional prosecutor\u2019s office said. An apartment building and a museum sustained damage. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Head of the regional military administration, Oleh Hryhorov later specified that the victim was a 94-year-old woman. She lived in the section of the building that was hit by a drone. Her birthday was on May 17.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two people were killed and six others wounded in a Russian attack on Dnipro overnight on Wednesday. Five people were taken to hospital, three of them in critical condition, head of the regional military administration, Oleksandr Hanzha said in a post to social media. A food storage warehouse, private homes and a car were damaged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The death toll from a Russian missile strike on the city of Pryluky in Chernihiv region on Tuesday increased to four, head of the regional military administration, Vyacheslav Chaus said Wednesday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFour people \u2014 two men, a woman and a 15-year-old boy \u2014 were killed in yesterday\u2019s missile strike on Pryluky. Thirty others were injured. Industrial sites, shopping malls, shops, pharmacies, educational facilities, apartments and private homes were damaged,\u201d Chaus said in a post to social media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More than 15,000 civilians killed in Ukraine since Russia\u2019s full-scale invasion<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

At least 15,850 civilians, including 791 children have been killed in Ukraine since Russia\u2019s full-scale invasion of the country, Director for Europe and Central Asia Division of the UN Departments of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs and Peace Operations, Kayoko Gotoh told the UN Security Council on Tuesday, citing the data by the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSince February 2022, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) has verified that at least 15,850 civilians, including 791 children, have been killed in Ukraine. Another 44,809, including 2,752 children, have been injured. Actual figures are likely significantly higher,\u201d Gotoh said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last month alone, at least 238 civilians were killed and 1,404 injured in Ukraine, she continued. This represents the highest monthly number of civilian casualties recorded since July 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt also reflects a continuing pattern of rising civilian harm,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIn the last week alone, we witnessed one of the largest aerial bombardments of Ukraine since the Russian Federation\u2019s full-scale invasion in February 2022,\u201d she continued. Between May 13 and 14, Russia reportedly launched more than 1,500 drones and dozens of missiles targeting cities across Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gotoh also said that UN personnel were involved in two \u201calarming drone-related incidents\u201d last week when \u201ctwo separate convoys, clearly marked as being part of the United Nations\u201d were hit on May 12 and May 14.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOn 14 May, a United Nations vehicle was struck twice in Kherson, where repeated drone attacks have made life extremely dangerous for civilians. The clearly marked vehicle was part of an inter-agency humanitarian mission, led by the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). The mission had been notified to the parties well in advance. This followed an incident on 12 May, when another clearly marked United Nations vehicle that was part of a World Food Program humanitarian convoy was reportedly hit by a remote-controlled drone in Dnipropetrovsk region,\u201d the message reads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gotoh emphasized that international law, including international humanitarian law, \u201cmust be respected at all times. Civilians, including humanitarian relief personnel, as well as civilian objects, must be protected at all times.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More than 83,000 Russian soldiers killed in action this year, Ukraine\u2019s army chief says<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Russian losses in Ukraine since the beginning of the year have exceeded 141,500 with more than 83,000 soldiers killed, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, General Oleksandr Syrskyi said in a post to social media, describing a meeting he had with the highest NATO military authorities within the NATO-Ukraine Council in Brussels on Wednesday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Russia is losing at least a thousand soldiers killed and wounded every day, Syrskyi said. Ukraine\u2019s active defense tactics exhaust the adversary, help regain positions and inflict maximum losses on the Russian forces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ukraine\u2019s unmanned systems play a key role in this effort, he continued. For the fifth month in a row, Russia has been losing more personnel than it is able to mobilize. It happens because of Ukrainian drones, Syrskyi explained. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ukraine has stepped up the number of attacks on targets deep inside Russia thanks to the deployment of middle-range strike drones, he said. \u201cWe have also achieved certain successes in suppressing Russian air defense systems at shorter ranges, allowing us to strike logistics hubs, oil refineries, and facilities of the Russian defense-industrial complex with increasing effectiveness,\u201d Syrskyi added.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
