Poltava is a city of iconic symbols of Ukrainian identity. It is home to the Poltava Zemstvo Building \u2014 one of the most prominent landmarks of Ukrainian architectural modernism, now the Vasyl Krychevskyi Local History Museum. Its architecture and decoration reflect the full depth of Ukrainian applied culture. Equally important to the city are Ivan Kotliarevsky, regarded as the founder of modern Ukrainian literature, and the history of the Battle of Poltava, whose consequences shaped Ukraine\u2019s destiny for centuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
