{"id":50006,"date":"2016-02-29T16:43:47","date_gmt":"2016-02-29T16:43:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/uacrisis.org\/?p=40686"},"modified":"2016-02-29T18:48:01","modified_gmt":"2016-02-29T15:48:01","slug":"40686-top-5-news-on-crimea-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uacrisis.org\/en\/40686-top-5-news-on-crimea-3","title":{"rendered":"Top-5 news on Crimea over February 22-28, 2016"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu: Turkey will always support Crimean Tatars.<br \/>\n<\/strong><em>February 27 2016 9:32 a.m.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Two years after Russia\u2019s occupation of Crimea, Turkish Prime Minister said Turkey would always support its Crimean Tatar brothers in their just struggle.<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 The Turkish Prime Minister said that in a telegram sent to the Platform of Crimean Tatar Organizations of Turkey, the largest organization of Crimean Tatars abroad bringing together 49 NGOs.<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 The head office of the Culture and Mutual Assistance Society of Crimean Tatars (Dernek, Ankara) held an event called \u201cTwo years after Russia\u2019s occupation of Crimea: Talking about Crimea\u201d in Ankara on February 26.<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 \u201cThe health and wellbeing of our compatriots matters a lot to us,\u201d said Ahmet Davutoglu.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/qha.com.ua\/ru\/politika\/davutoglu-mi-na-storone-krimskih-bratev-v-ih-spravedlivoi-borbe\/155874\/\">&gt;&gt;&gt;<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Two years after Russia\u2019s occupation of Crimea, Ukrainian President Pyotr Poroshenko said Crimea would remain Ukraine\u2019s integral part<br \/>\n<\/strong><em>February 26, 2016 5:59 p.m.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u2013 The Ukrainian President recognized the need to create a Crimean Tatar national autonomy in Crimea.<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 In a statement made on the occasion of the 2nd anniversary of Crimea\u2019s occupation, the President said Crimea was, is and will be Ukraine\u2019s integral part, while Russia, which committed the act of thievery, would be made to return what does not belong to it.<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Kiev will take steps to ensure the issue of illegal occupation of the Crimean Autonomous Republic and the city of Sevastopol, perpetrated in violation of the international law and such that has had no precedent since the end of WWII, remains high on the European and international agenda.<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 One gets the impression Moscow is trying to make the Crimean Tatars relive the events of 1944, while Kiev, though belatedly, has come to realize the need of creating a Crimean Tatar autonomy in Crimea. Surely, that will be accomplished by ensuring equal rights and civic freedoms of Russians, Ukrainians and people of other nationalities living in Crimea.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/qha.com.ua\/ru\/politika\/prezident-poroshenko-sdelal-zayavlenie-krim-ostanetsya-neotemlemoi-chastyu-ukraini\/155839\/\">&gt;&gt;&gt;<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Occupants broke into \u2018Crimea&#8217; NGO in Simferopol (PHOTO)<br \/>\n<\/strong><em>February 23, 2016 1:29 p.m.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u2013 There was an attack on a building housing \u2018Crimea\u2019 NGO\u2019s office, located at Simferopol\u2019s 40 Zhidkova Street.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 The attackers broke down the building\u2019s doors and smashed the windows.<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 The so-called \u2018law-enforcement agencies\u2019 of Crimea did nothing to establish identities of the vandals. No police officers arrived at the incident site and no criminal proceedings were initiated.<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Nothing has changed in the way harassment is done: prosecutor offices issue orders, courts quickly hand down verdicts authorizing seizure of property, court enforcement officers quickly evict people and after some time unidentified (only to us) individuals ransack the building and damage the NGO\u2019s property, says Riza Shevkiyev, CEO of \u2018Crimea Foundation\u2019 charity.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/qha.com.ua\/ru\/proisshestviya\/okkupanti-razgromili-zdanie-fonda-krim-v-simferopole\/155571\/\">&gt;&gt;&gt;<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Occupants launched a libelous campaign against Jamala\u2019s performance at Eurovision 2016<br \/>\n<\/strong><em>February 22, 2016 8:09 p.m.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Russia launched a libelous campaign against the Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar people after Jamala, a Ukrainian singer of Crimean Tatar descent, won at the finals of the Ukrainian national qualification for the Eurovision Song Contest with her entry\u20181944\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 According to Russian MPs and the so-called Crimean authorities, Jamals\u2019s song about deportation is too political.<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Representatives of the so-called Crimean authorities are spreading false information about the singer and her song, claiming that \u2018the Ukrainian authorities are trying to use Jamala\u2019s song for political advantage by speculating on the tragedy of the entire Crimean Tatar people\u2019 and that Jamala \u2018is unwittingly risking becoming a participant of Crimea blockade\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Statements like these are libelous and aimed at discrediting Ukraine and Crimean Tatars living in temporarily occupied Crimea.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/qha.com.ua\/ru\/politika\/okkupanti-ispugalis-vistupleniya-djamali-na-evrovidenii2016\/155550\/\">&gt;&gt;&gt;<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Transcript of NSDC meeting on Crimea annexation declassified<br \/>\n<\/strong><em>February 22, 2016 2:29 p.m.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u2013 A transcript of a Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) meeting of February 28, 2014, on the situation in the country in late February \u2013 March 2014 (the issue of annexation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea) report of declassified Ukraine\u2019s Security and Defense Council has been declassified.<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Igor Tenyukh, acting Defense Minister, requested that Alexander Turchinov, the then acting President of Ukraine, put the Ukrainian Armed Forced on high alert.<\/p>\n<p>\u2013\u00a0 According to Tenyukh, \u2018a total of 38,000 people, 761 units of battle-ready tank equipment, 2,200 armored vehicles, 720 artillery systems and multiple rocket launchers, up to 40 attack helicopters and 90 combat support helicopters and 90 strike aircraft have already been concentrated in the direction of Kyiv, Kharkiv and Donetsk.
