Odesa is to host a literary and artistic festival this summer. Its historic cultural location Green theatre is being restored. The city has all chances to become an attractive cultural center.<\/em><\/p>\n

Kyiv, May 20, 2016.<\/strong> <\/em>This summer Odesa is to host the artistic festival \u201cMeridian Odessa\u201d organized by the International literature corporation MERIDIAN CZERNOWITZ. Festival\u2019s opening will take place on June 3 with participation of Ukrainian writer Les Podervyanskyi. \u201cLiterary evenings, plays and musical concerts are to happen over the three summer months,\u201d said Svyatoslav Pomerantsev, president of the corporation at a press briefing at Ukraine Crisis Media Center. Artistic summer in Odesa will see the following artists performing: Ihor Pomerantsev, Yuriy Izdryk, Iryna Tsilyk, Oleksandr Roitburd, Lyudmyla and Borys Khersonsky, Yuriy Andrukhovych, Ada Rogovtseva, Oksana Zabuzhko, Kateryna Babkina, Dmytro Lazutkin, Sergiy Zhadan, Andriy Lyubka and Irena Karpa. An evening of Odesa poets is also planned to be held. \u201cIt is going to be not only literature. \u2018Rozdilovi<\/a>\u2019 (punctuation marks \u2013 UCMC) play and ska-punk concert \u201cZhadan i Sobaky\u201d will be also part of the festival,\u201d noted Pomerantsev.<\/p>\n

Festival\u2019s location is the summer Zeleny (Green) theatre in Shevchenko park is downtown Odesa. According to Yevhenia Lvova, theatre\u2019s program director the spot is already being renovated by efforts of the Impact Hub<\/a>. \u201cWe want to see the Green theatre become Odesa\u2019s cultural center as it used to be before,\u201d said Lvova.<\/p>\n

Svyatoslav Pomerantsev noted that the new book of poetry by Sergiy Zhadan \u201cTemplars\u201d was illustrated by renowned Odesa artist Oleksandr Roitburd. \u201cOdesa is currently turning into a true center of Ukraine\u2019s cultural life. It has its own film festival and a book fair. There are always a lot of people interested in culture, who are creating and promoting culture. [\u2026] Our concerts are always attended by the people who are interested and who know why they came,\u201d said Sergiy Zhadan. He thinks that \u201cMeridian Odessa\u201d will create positive competition to the International literary festival that started last year in Odesa.<\/p>\n

Sergiy Zhadan\u2019s book \u201cTemplars\u201d will be presented in Kharkiv at the Opera House on August 23. It comprises poetry written over the past year.<\/p>\n
