Dear colleagues,<\/p>\n

First, I would like to thank you all for joining the group. I hope that we all will benefit greatly from our cooperation. Also huge thanks to Volodymyr for introducing me.<\/p>\n

Today I would like to offer you to share your thoughts on the recent interrogation of former president Viktor Yanukovych in Rostov. I will go first; here are\u00a0ten\u00a0things to know about the interrogation:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Yanukovych was set to\u00a0be questioned\u00a0as a witness in the case of Euromaidan killings which occurred in central Kyiv back in February 2014, which is looked into by\u00a0Sviatoshyn Court in Kyiv. He spent almost seven hours answering the questions of prosecutors.<\/li>\n
  2. The questioning was scheduled to take place on 25 November, but it was adjourned several minutes after the start of the hearing, because the defendants were not present in court, so the additional hearing\u00a0was held\u00a0on 28 November.<\/li>\n
  3. Yanukovych claims to remember almost nothing\u00a0form\u00a0his last days in Ukraine (18-20 February 2014). He said he had no recollection of what he was doing then, with whom he spoke over the phone. He also stated that he receivedinformation\u00a0about killings \u201cfrom the news\u201d.<\/li>\n
  4. Yanukovych\u2019s typical answer sounded like this:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Oleksiy Donsky,\u00a0prosecutor:\u00a0\u201cDo you remember your talks with the opposition, or how you called Putin when people on the Maidan\u00a0were shot?\u201d<\/p>\n

    Yanukovych:\u00a0\u201cNo, I do not remember these conversations, and probably there were no such conversations at all.\u201d<\/p>\n

    1. Yanukovych\u00a0is convinced\u00a0that all the events on Maidan\u00a0were staged. He talked about the role of far-right and nationalist forces multiple times, argued that Right Sector and Maidan self-defence forces had firearms, including sniper rifles.<\/li>\n
    2. Ex-president stressed he would do everything to stop the bloodshed, including \u201cearly presidential elections and amendments to the Constitution.\u201d However, he\u00a0did not explain why he ended up doing nothing.<\/li>\n
    3. Speaking about the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement, Yanukovych emphasized that his decision to suspend the negotiations was a right one. However, later he noted he had tried not to put brakes on\u00a0Eurointegration\u00a0process but to make it faster, more efficient. A clear case of paradox.<\/li>\n
    4. Two years after he fled from Ukraine, Yanukovych still considers himself a legitimate president. \u201cI have by far not put off this responsibility. I bear it before the Ukrainian people,\u201d he stressed.<\/li>\n
    5. Yuriy Lutsenko, Ukraine\u2019s Prosecutor General, has read out official accusations of high treason that have\u00a0been brought\u00a0against Yanukovych. Nevertheless, Yanukovych’s lawyer urged Ukraine not to ask tough questions, saying Yanukovych is a witness, not a suspect.<\/li>\n
    6. There were many inconsistencies in Yanukovych\u2019s answers, but the prosecution so far failed to pull out the truth from him. Next hearings\u00a0are set\u00a0for Friday, 2 December.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
