On August 24 Ukraine marks the Independence Day. UCMC chose 26 figures that best demonstrate the changes that have occurred in the country since it became independent in 1991.<\/em><\/p>\n

  1. Ukrainian language<\/a> becomes fashionable \u2013 60 per cent<\/strong> of Ukrainians consider it their native language.<\/li>\n
  2. According to UNESCO, Ukraine is one of the 10 countries<\/strong> with the highest level of literacy.<\/li>\n
  3. The number of Ukrainians who go to study abroad and then turn back home to apply their knowledge is growing. Over 46 thousand Ukrainians<\/strong> study abroad<\/a>.<\/li>\n
  4. Ukrainian mathematician Maryna Viazovska was awarded the Salem Prize 2016<\/strong> for an internationally important discovery \u2013 the one that fellow mathematicians have been trying to resolve for centuries.<\/li>\n
  5. Ukrainians appreciate arts and cultural heritage \u2013 the number of museums<\/a> increased from 214 to 576 <\/strong>within the independence times.<\/li>\n
  6. Ukrainians started buying more domestically-published books. The number of printed publications has grown from 7046 to 21330<\/strong> in the 26 years.<\/li>\n
  7. In the ranking Doing Business<\/a> Ukraine has reached the top position<\/strong> among the ex-Soviet Bloc countries.\"\"<\/li>\n
  8. Ukrainians live longer \u2013 in 1991 the average life expectancy<\/a> constituted 69 years<\/strong>, today it\u2019s 71<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  9. The population<\/a> number has decreased by almost 9 million<\/strong> within the independence times.<\/li>\n
  10. In the first month alone after the visa free regime<\/a> with the EU came in force in June 2017 over 95 thousand<\/strong> Ukrainians crossed the border of the EU member states without the need for a visa.<\/li>\n
  11. Exports of Ukraine-produced goods and services increased 2,4 times<\/strong> in the past 26 years.<\/li>\n
  12. Ukraine is one of the top-5 countries<\/strong> that demonstrated the most dynamic growth of indicators assessed by the World Nation Brands 2016. Ukraine added 27%<\/strong> and its brand value increased from 44 billion dollars to 56 billion dollars.\"\"<\/li>\n
  13. Ukraine takes the 5th<\/sup> position<\/strong> in the ranking that measures the dynamics of electro cars expansion.<\/li>\n
  14. Ukraine counts two victories<\/strong> at the Eurovision Song Contest and has respectively hosted the competition twice.<\/li>\n
  15. Elina Svitolina becomes 4th<\/sup> world\u2019s best<\/strong> tennis racket according to the WTA ranking.<\/li>\n
