{"id":9086,"date":"2014-03-06T17:12:37","date_gmt":"2014-03-06T17:12:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/uacrisis.org\/?p=240"},"modified":"2014-06-21T14:45:51","modified_gmt":"2014-06-21T12:45:51","slug":"240-chrystia-freeland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uacrisis.org\/en\/240-chrystia-freeland","title":{"rendered":"Canada MP Chrystia Freeland: We support Ukraine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">Kyiv, 6 March 2014 \u2013 Canadian community, Parliament and the whole Ukrainian diaspora support the people of Ukraine, said Chrystia Freeland, a Canadian Member of Parliament, former editor of Thompson Reuters Digital and Financial Times USA, during a press conference at the Ukraine Crisis Media Center. \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u2018I understand that we have a big influence on the rest of the G7 countries and we will continue to promote Ukraine\u2019s interests there\u2019, said Chrystia Freeland.<\/p>\n<p>The Canadian MP had a number of meetings with the representatives of the newly-appointed government with the purpose to discuss plans to pull the country out of today\u2019s grave economic situation. \u2018Ukraine\u2019s economy is certainly in a complicated condition, but when a country\u2019s national security is in danger, all other issues fade into insignificance\u2019, commented Ms. Freeland.<\/p>\n<p>When asked what exactly should Ukrainians demonstrate to the world now, Chrystia Freeland replied: \u2018It is very important to show that no one in Ukraine has any intention of oppressing or persecuting the Russian speaking population\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Chrystia Freeland \u00a0is a Canadian writer, journalist and politician. Ms. Freeland served in various editorial positions with the <a title=\"Financial Times\" href=\"http:\/\/uk.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Financial_Times\">Financial Times<\/a>,\u00a0<a title=\"Globe and Mail (\u0449\u0435 \u043d\u0435 \u043d\u0430\u043f\u0438\u0441\u0430\u043d\u0430)\" href=\"http:\/\/uk.wikipedia.org\/w\/index.php?title=Globe_and_Mail&amp;action=edit&amp;redlink=1\">Globe and Mail<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a title=\"Thomson Reuters (\u0449\u0435 \u043d\u0435 \u043d\u0430\u043f\u0438\u0441\u0430\u043d\u0430)\" href=\"http:\/\/uk.wikipedia.org\/w\/index.php?title=Thomson_Reuters&amp;action=edit&amp;redlink=1\">Thomson Reuters<\/a>. In November 2013 she was elected to the Parliament of Canada as a member of the Liberal Party.<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Freeland is the author of Sale of the Century (2000), and Plutocrats: The Rise of the New Global Super-Rich and the Fall of Everyone (2012).
