Situation in the combat zone<\/strong><\/p>\n

Over the last week Russia-backed militants fired upon Ukraine\u2019s Joint Forces\u2019 positions from Minsk-proscribed 122-mm artillery, 120-mm and 82-mm mortars as well as from weapons mounted on infantry-fighting vehicles, antiaircraft mounts, grenade launchers and small arms.<\/p>\n

During one of the attacks Russian proxies used an unmanned aerial vehicle carrying grenades aiming to maximize the impact on Ukrainian troops.<\/p>\n

In violation of the Minsk agreements Russia-backed militants fired from large-caliber machine guns and small arms in the areas of disengagement of troops and weapons outside Zolote and Bohdanivka.<\/p>\n

\n

Protests against the \u201cSteinmeier formula\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

On October 6 on Maidan square in Kyiv people rallied against the so-called \u201cSteinmeier formula\u201d for peace settlement in Donbas. Participants of the rally protested against the \u201ccapitulation\u201d.<\/p>\n

As per police estimates, about 10 thousand people<\/a>\u00a0took part in the rally. No violations of public order were recorded.<\/p>\n

Participants of the Viche (public assembly) are concerned that holding elections in the occupied Donbas and assigning a special status to these territories contradicts the Constitution of Ukraine. They demand that Russia leaves Crimea and Donbas unconditionally, while Ukrainian authorities should not be accepting any compromises.<\/p>\n

War veteran Pavlo Bilous read out the text from the stage. Representatives of the \u201cDemocratic Axe\u201d (Democratychna sokyra)party, \u201cFree People\u201d (Vilni Liudy) organization, \u201cNational Corps\u201d (Natsionalnyi korpus) and \u201cEuropean Solidarity\u201d (Yevropeiska solidarnist) parties stood alongside him on the stage.<\/p>\n

Similar rallies took place all across Ukraine. Thus, in Kharkiv about one hundred people gathered on the central square.<\/p>\n

\n

Disengagement of troops on the frontline did not happen \u2013 Normandy-format meeting postponed<\/strong><\/p>\n

Disengagement of troops and weapons in Zolote and Petrovske in Luhansk region scheduled for October 7 did not happen as a few days ago Russia-backed militants fired upon these towns, said Ukraine\u2019s Foreign Affairs Minister Vadym Prystaiko at the joint press conference with the Foreign Affairs Minister of Latvia Edgars Rink\u0113vi\u010ds.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe disengagement was supposed to start today, indeed it was agreed upon in Minsk by our negotiation team. (\u2026) Unfortunately a few days ago Petrivske and Zolote came under fire. As you may remember our decision was that the disengagement starts on the seventh day after peace stands on a particular site and there are no attacks,\u201d Prystaiko said.<\/p>\n

To remind, on October 1 the Trilateral Contact Group in Minsk agreed to disengage forces<\/a>\u00a0outside Petrivske and Zolote. As the next step the date for the Normandy Four meeting should be set<\/a>, the Kremlin stated.<\/p>\n

Ukraine\u2019s Defense Ministry said that the Armed Forces are technically ready to the disengagement of troops<\/a>\u00a0in Petrivske and Zolote. OSCE stated that disengagement is supposed to start on October 7<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n

What will be in the new law on the special status of Donbas \u2013 Head of the Parliament Razumkov<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Not a single \u201cred line\u201d will be crossed as the law on the special status of Donbas will be drafted, reassured the Head of the Parliament Dmytro Razumkov in a TV show on \u201cUkraina\u201d channel on October 6.<\/p>\n

The parliamentary chief emphasized that “no one will violate the previously set \u2018red lines\u2019 as Ukraine\u2019s territorial integrity and sovereignty depend on them.”<\/p>\n

\u201cElections are the cornerstone. Elections can be held based on the Ukrainian legislation only, it is one of the red lines that we\u2019ve outlined. Secondly elections can take place only when there are no machine guns, tanks or other weapons. All this makes holding elections impossible. When the security component is achieved (\u2026), we will be able to hold the elections in the currently occupied territory based on the Ukrainian legislation only. When we get the control over the border, when OSCE recognizes these elections, the so-called new law on the special status of Donbas will come into effect,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

According to Razumkov, the law \u201cshould be drafted with engagement of experts, civil society, Verkhovna Rada, Office of the President and foreign partners\u201d so that no one gets the idea that the new law on the special status foresees Ukraine\u2019s federalization.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe understand that the so-called law on the special status of the temporarily occupied areas expires this year. A new mechanism, a new law needs to be found, and the President said so, he said it would be a public position. (\u2026) It will not be drafted in the Office of the President or in a closed parliamentary committee. The law will be drafted together with the society, because the issue is very important to the whole country,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
