Ukraine ranks 64th in the ease of doing business ranking \u201cDoing Business 2020\u201d moving up seven positions since its last edition. The news came from the government press service<\/a>\u00a0that quoted Prime Minister Oleksiy Honcharuk.<\/p>\n

What is the \u201cDoing Business\u201d ranking?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cDoing Business\u201d is the ease of doing business ranking compiled annually by the World Bank. It benchmarks business regulation in 190 countries. The report results froma comprehensive research of business regulation aspectsin\u00a0 each of the economiesbased on 10 key indicators.<\/p>\n

The ease of doing business index is one of the key markers for businesses when deciding to invest in a chosen country.<\/p>\n

According to the data by the World Bank this year Ukraine\u2019s six indicators out of ten total that affect the ranking experienced a positive change.<\/p>\n

Ukraine\u2019s record leap.\u00a0<\/strong>Sixty-fourth is Ukraine\u2019s highest position ever in the \u201cDoing Business\u201d ranking. Since the first edition of the index in 2006 Ukraine\u2019s positions were not the best ones. Only in 2015 the country entered the top hundred.<\/p>\n

Ukraine was at its lowest position in the ranking in 2012 \u2013 at 152 out of the total 183 positions. In 2019 Ukraine was at 71 in the \u201cDoing Business<\/a>\u201d score. Through 2014-2018 Ukraine went up 24 positions in the ranking.<\/p>\n

Compared to other states of the former Soviet bloc.\u00a0<\/strong>While this year\u2019s result is quite good, it\u2019s far from the best one achieved among the countries of the former Soviet bloc. Thus, Lithuania is at 11, Estonia is at 18, Kazakhstan ranks 25th<\/sup>, Russia \u2013 28th<\/sup>, Moldova is at 48 and Belarus is at 49.<\/p>\n

Which factors affected the ranking?\u00a0<\/strong>The biggest progress (+27 points) was demonstrated for the indicators \u201cprotecting minority shareholders\u201d and \u201cdealing with construction permits\u201d (+10 points).<\/p>\n

There were positive developments on other indicators: \u201cgetting electricity\u201d, \u201ctrading across borders\u201d, \u201cregistering property\u201d and \u201cgetting credit\u201d.<\/p>\n

Commentary by the Prime Minister. <\/strong>Prime Minister Oleksiy Honcharuk said: \u201cUkraine going up seven positions in the Doing Business ranking at once is a self-explanatory result. It is a positive signal for Ukrainian entrepreneurs and a green light for foreign investors.<\/p>\n
