Francois Hollande and Angela Merkel once more called on Vladimir Putin to press separatists to accept a dialogue with Ukrainian authorities.
President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko held a phone conversation with Federal Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel and informed her on the current situation in the Donbas. The President of Ukraine assured of readiness for a bilateral ceasefire. At the same time, the following must be ensured: monitoring and verification of the ceasefire, control over the border in order to prevent the inflow of militants and weapons from Russia, immediate release of all hostages and beginning of unconditional political negotiations. In response, Angela Merkel noted that representatives of the OSCE Special monitoring mission didn’t have an access to the checkpoints on the border because of the actions of militants.
The work of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people could be forbidden. Crimea Prosecutor Natalia Poklonskaya accused the organization in extremism. Experts think that meeting mentioned by Poklonskaya, including the meeting on May 18 (anniversary of Crimean Tatar deportation) had nothing to do with extremism.
