ATO Staff spokesman: Russia-backed militants use heavy weapons banned by Minsk agreements

Kyiv, May 15, 2015. Pro-Russian militants have fired at the positions of Ukrainian troops and at the peaceful residential areas from the heavy artillery, mortars and machine guns starting from 6 pm on May 14, said Lieutenant Colonel Leonyd Matyukhin, ATO Staff spokesman, at the press briefing at Ukraine Crisis Media Center. “Opytne, Avdiivka, Pisky, Putylivska mine, Karlivka and Starohnativka in Donetsk sector came under fire,” Lt. Col. Matyukhin clarified.

Russia-backed fighters fired at the areas near Shchastya, Tryokhizbenka, Sokilnyky, Stanytsia Luhanska and Shyrokyne from grenade launchers and small arms.
Furthermore, militants used large-caliber machine guns firing at the Ukrainian troops based near Kirove and Leninske, Donetsk region.
