Ministry of Defense: Ukrainian Security Service detains militants’ subverter

The Security Service of Ukraine detained a member of militants’ subversive reconnaissance group who wanted to penetrate to the ATO troops controlled territory. The 25-year-old militant was found to be a self-proclaimed “chief of military headquarters” of a temporarily occupied district in Luhansk region. Moreover, Ukrainian intelligence services detained a female resident of Pokrovsk who was making forged documents for militants. “16 falsified Ukrainian national passports as well as documents and equipment for forging them were seized from the militants’ accomplice,” informed the spokesman of the Ministry of Defense on ATO related issues Colonel Oleksandr Motuzyanyk at a press briefing at Ukraine Crisis Media Center.

Russia-backed militants instigated seven armed provocations involving use of various grenade launchers and machine guns in the vicinity of Popasna in the Luhansk sector. 18 militants’ attacks took place in the Mariupol sector, one of them involving use of mortars. Two thirds of attacks happened in Vodiane-Shyrokyne frontline area, with active engagement of armor and snipers. Moreover, Russian proxies launched three mortar shells at ATO troops’ positions in Shyrokyne. The other armed provocations took place in Mariinka-Krasnohorivka frontline area, Pavlopil and Talakivka. “14 hostile attacks took place in the Donetsk sector, and three of them involved use of mortar launchers. Occupants launched 35 mortar shells during attack at ATO troops’ positions in the vicinity of Luhanske. In total, militants opened fire six times in this frontline area. The enemy used grenade launchers and small arms there. Other attacks in the Donetsk sector were registered on the north outskirts of Horlivka, in Avdiivka industrial area and in the vicinity of Donetsk airport. The enemy used no heavy armor there,” elaborated the spokesman.

Ukrainian Armed Forces incurred no losses in combat yesterday, and two troops were injured.
