Oleksandr Motuzyanyk: Russia-backed militants increase number of attacks in eastern Ukraine

Kyiv, April 26, 2015. The number of ceasefire violations committed by pro-Russian militants has increased. “Militants shelled our positions 12 times from 120-mm mortars and five times from the 122-mm and 152-mm artillery. They have also used “Grad” multiple rocket launchers twice against the Ukrainian troops in the area of Hranitne, Donetsk region,” said Colonel Oleksandr Motuzyanyk, spokesman of Administration of the President of Ukraine on issues connected with ATO, at the press briefing at Ukraine Crisis Media Center.

Ukrainian positions in the Donetsk sector came under fire in the area of the Donetsk airport, namely in the vicinity of Avdiivka, Pisky, Opytne, Putylivska mine as well as near Horlivka in the area of Mayorsk and Leninske. Militants continue their attacks by Shyrokyne in the Mariupol sector. In the Luhansk region, isolated armed provocations have been recorded near Shchastya and Stanytsia Luhanska.

Ukrainian border guards spotted six enemy UAVs along the frontline.

One Ukrainian serviceman was killed in action and seven got wounded in the last 24 hours.

According to Col. Oleksandr Motuzyanyk, Ukrainian groups of civil-military cooperation delivered humanitarian aid to the residents Artemivsk and Dzerzhynsk districts close to the frontline in Donetsk region.

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s Security Services detained a pro-Russian subversive in Volnovakha. She was gathering intelligence on the Ukrainian Armed Forces for the “DPR” militants.

In Zaporizhzhia, Ukrainian operatives in collaboration with the local police uncovered an illegal arms trade scheme. Two residents of the city have been detained while they were attempting to sell five RPG-18 rocket anti-tank launchers, 20 F-1 grenades and over 800 7.62-mm ammunition rounds. Moreover, various types of weapons were discovered during the search of their flat, including machine guns, automatic rifles, grenades and shotguns.
