Kyiv, October 5, 2015. Over 7,000 parts of the electric grid and over 15,000 overhead circuit frames, pieces of transformer equipment and protective gear were repaired following inspection by the State Energy Supervision in August and September 2015, informed Volodymyr Rubanka, Chief State Inspector of State Energy Supervision of Ukraine.
Moreover, this year electricity transmission companies organized truncation of branches and trees which were impeding work of 577.4km of overhead circuits at the request of the State Energy Supervisor. Following inspections of State Energy Supervisor, the situation in electricity supply for about one thousand consumers in the social sphere has improved, including about 800 educational, scientific and cultural institutions and around 200 medical institutions.
Functions of State Energy Supervision include maintaining capacities of the united energy system, inspection of electrical substations and power grid equipment as well as control of technical malfunctions for objects forming an integral part of the system.
Anatoliy Hushlia, Deputy Chief Inspector of Ukraine on Energy Supervision, said that citizens can also support stable functioning of the united energy system of Ukraine. To do so it is necessary to reduce electricity consumption during peak hours (from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.).
“The daily load schedule is quite irregular for the united energy system of Ukraine. The difference between the maximum and the minimum power consumption within a day is roughly 7,000 MW in winter and 5,000 MW in summer, which results in considerable fuel wastage at thermal stations,” said Hushlia.
Considering the fact that households’ share in of power consumption of Ukraine makes up 31 percent, the economic interest of Ukrainian citizens is to use energy at night, which may become an efficient energy saving strategy on a national scale.
