Ministry of Defense: Militants launch over 120 mines at Avdiivka area yesterday

One Ukrainian soldier was killed in action yesterday, another one was wounded. The death of the missing soldier was confirmed.

Hostilities in Avdiivka had continued for more than 10 hours yesterday. “A total of over 120 mines and 50 tank shells were launched at the area yesterday,” said Colonel Oleksandr Motuzyanyk, Ministry of Defense of Ukraine spokesperson on ATO-related issues during a press briefing at Ukraine Crisis Media Center. The most intense militants’ attacks took place at the dawn and in the afternoon, after 7 PM attacks continued without the use of heavy weapons.

Moreover, Russia-backed militants used mortars on the Svitlodarsk Bulge, in Horlivka area, in the vicinity of Donetsk airport, and in Shakhta Butovka – Pisky area, but the shelling was less intense here than in Avdiivka. “In total, militants performed 24 ceasefire violations in the Donetsk sector yesterday, 12 of which involved heavy weapons,” said MOD spokesperson.

Two militants’ attacks were recorded in Valuyske and Novooleksandrivka in the Luhansk sector. Both continued for 20 minutes and did not involve the use of heavy weapons.

Militants violated the ceasefire 36 times in the Mariupol sector, two attacks involved the use of heavy artillery, namely mortars in Lebedynske and Novotroitske. In other places, they were firing small arms, grenade launchers and weapons of armored fighting vehicles. The ceasefire was maintained in Marinka area.

One Ukrainian soldier was killed in action yesterday, another one was wounded. “We confirmed the death of the soldier who was reported missing the day before yesterday. Ukrainian army incurred all these losses in Avdiivka,” added Col. Motuzyanyk. Moreover, a serviceman who was badly wounded in Zaitseve on February 16 died in hospital yesterday.
