Ministry of Defense: Militants conduct a series of mortar attacks in Mariupol sector, most intense in Krasnohorivka

The largest number of militants’ attacks took place in Mariupol sector yesterday. Russian proxies conducted 28 shooting attacks, seven of them involved heavy armor. They fired about 50 mortar shells, reported Ukrainian Ministry of Defense spokesman on ATO Colonel Andriy Lysenko at a press briefing at Ukraine Crisis Media Center. Hostilities started after 10:00. “Militants were actively using mortars in Maryinka district and in Pavlopil – Shyrokyne frontline. These heavy weapons attacks continued for about five hours with pauses, the most intense one took place in Krasnohorivka. The enemy continued armed provocations, mostly with small arms, grenade launchers and armor,” elaborated Col. Lysenko.

In Donetsk sector, militants violated the ceasefire 18 times, using heavy weapons in six incidents. Hostilities continued mostly in the morning and in the evening. Russian proxies opened mortar fire, discharging a total of over 60 rounds at Svitlodarsk area, near Avdiivka and at Shakhta Butovka position. “In addition to light weapons, the enemy repeatedly used armored vehicles,” added Col. Lysenko. The ceasefire held near Donetsk airport.

Militants conducted seven ceasefire violations in Luhansk sector. Attacks took place in Stanytsia Luhanska, Novyi Aidar and Popasna districts. Russian proxies used mortars and APC in Krymske. “The largest number of enemy attacks was registered in Valuiske, where the longest armed incident, which lasted 45 minutes, occurred,” said the spokesman.

Two Ukrainian servicemen were killed in action yesterday, and six more were wounded. “These severe losses were incurred in all sectors. One of the killed troops was an engineer who was demining an area, and the rest came under hostile fire,” elaborated Col. Lysenko.
