Ministry of Defense: Russia-backed militants shell Luhanske village with mortars

Last night, Russia-backed militants shelled Luhanske village in Donetsk region having fired 15 rounds from 82-mm and 120-mm mortars. “The attack took place in the evening, Ukrainian troops are still examining the site,” reported Ukrainian Ministry of Defense spokesman on ATO Colonel Dmytro Hutsulyak at a press briefing at Ukraine Crisis Media Center.

Russian proxies committed a total of seven ceasefire violations over the last day. All the attacks took place in Luhansk sector. The enemy fired a total of 140 120-mm mortar rounds and 145 82-mm mortar rounds.

At about 05:00, militants shelled Ukrainian troops outside Luhanske with 120-mm mortars, having fired 20 rounds. The attack continued for about 90 minutes and was accompanied by the fire from grenade launchers and heavy machine guns. Militants also opened precision fire twice in Troitske area. “In the morning, militants shelled Ukrainian troops with 82-mm mortars. At 20:30, they fired over thirty-five 120-mm mortar rounds. The attack continued for approximately 90 minutes,” Colonel Hutsulyak said.

Near Novooleksandrivka. Russian proxies delivered three attacks using 82-mm mortars, grenade launchers, and heavy machine guns. The fire came from the direction of the temporarily occupied village Kalynove-Borshchuvate. “Starting from 17:30 Russia-backed militants were shelling Ukrainian troops’ defensive positions near Svitlodarsk for four and a half hours. The enemy fired over two hundred 82-mm and 120-mm mortar rounds and used a ZU-23-2 antiaircraft mount, grenade launchers, and small arms,” the ATO spokesperson added. Ukrainian troops returned fire in response to the majority of the attacks.

Unfortunately, one Ukrainian serviceman was wounded in action. He is in fair condition.
