Russian invaders plundered the cultural heritage of the Kherson region: they stole approximately 15 000 paintings and took them to occupied Simferopol, as reported by the Center of National Resistance.

The Shovkunenko Kherson Art Museum, which housed works of icon painting from the 17th to the beginning of the 20th century, Ukrainian art from the second half of the 19th to the beginning of the 20th century, works by contemporary artists, was the most affected.
