Ukraine energy situation critical: Part 2

Ukraine energy situation critical: Part 2. Ukraine in Flames #235

Ukraine’s critical infrastructure continues sustaining damage from Russian constant missile terror: on October 31, the aggressor yet again conducted series of strikes against energy facilities across Ukraine, attacking at least 10 regions and damaging 18 objects. Even though Ukraine’s Air Force shot down 44 of more than 50 cruise missiles fired by the Russian military, the remaining ones managed to hit the targets, and emergency power outages throughout Ukraine are being introduced due to this.

Overall, Ukrainians have been facing blackouts lasting up to 4-8 hours per day in some regions for the past several weeks – ever since the first large-scale coordinated Russian attack against civilian energy facilities on October 10. In just around 3 weeks, Russia managed to destroy or damage 30-40% of electricity installations in Ukraine, according to official information. This poses many challenges for all the spheres of economy and could be disastrous for the country approaching the winter season.

Still, Ukrainians persevere: even without electricity, water, or heating, they approach the problems with humour and creativity. However, more aid from partners is certainly needed to prevent even more damage and support the Ukrainian energy system in the upcoming months, in particular, air defense, missile defense, and anti-drone defense systems to close the sky over the critical infrastructure.

DTEK Group press secretary Antonina Antosha, President of DiXi Group Olena Pavlenko, and
energy expert Gennadii Riabtsev discuss how the world can help light Ukraine up again.
