Wartime Journalism: Balancing Safety and Reporting in Ukraine

Wartime Journalism: Balancing Safety and Reporting in Ukraine. Ukraine in Flames #624

The full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation into Ukraine led not only to numerous destruction of infrastructure and human casualties but also significantly affected the safety of journalism in Ukraine. The Kremlin not only continuously attacks Ukrainian journalism in the information sphere but also tries to destroy the independence of Ukrainian media.

Russian troops specifically sought out journalists in the occupied territories to take them hostage and use them as leverage and propaganda tools. Due to hostilities, many Ukrainian media are forced to work in conditions that threaten the lives of journalists.

Russian propaganda tries to mirror its activities and accuses Ukrainian journalism before the international community of disinformation campaigns that it spreads.
