Тhe environmental impacts of war in Ukraine

Due to Russia’s armed aggression, Ukraine has become the most mined country in the world. Russia has committed more than 4,700 environmental crimes in Ukraine, with losses estimated at $64 billion. This was reported by the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights.

Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, 309 people have died as a result of mine explosions and dangerous objects. The country’s territory of about 142,000 km² is considered potentially mined.
