Day of Remembrance for the defenders of Donetsk Airport

Today is the Day of Remembrance for the defenders of Donetsk Airport – the legendary ‘cyborgs’ who defended the airport from 26 May 2014 to 23 January 2015.

These heroes have proved to the world that Ukrainian soldiers are stronger than concrete, and their unbreakable will to fight for Ukraine is the most impregnable fortress. Throughout the 242 days of defence of Donetsk airport, Ukrainian soldiers, volunteers, medics and volunteers showed true courage.

In the tragic days from 18 to 21 January 2015, 58 of our soldiers were killed by the occupiers when they blew up the airport terminal. In total, over 200 Ukrainian defenders were killed and about 500 were wounded during the defence of the airport. Many of them received state awards, some of them posthumously.

They held out – the concrete did not!

Eternal glory and honour to the defenders! We continue to fight bravely for our land and freedom.
Glory to Ukraine!
