Oleg Tyahnybok: We Are Capable of Protecting Ourselves, Our Territory and Our Сountry

Kyiv, 13 March 2014 – Verkhovna Rada today has adopted a Law on the National Guard of Ukraine which will help to quickly mobilize over 60,000 Ukrainians who are ready to protect the territorial integrity and independence of Ukraine in case of military aggression on the part of the Russian invaders, said Oleg Tyahnybok, Member of Parliament, leader of the All-Ukrainian Union ‘Svoboda’, at the press briefing at the Ukrainian Crisis Media Center.

“It is of paramount importance for the Ukrainian people and the government to act together”, appealed Oleg Tyagnybok, “if a war breaks out, it will not just be a war of the Ukrainian army against Russian invaders, and it will be a war of all Ukrainian people for their freedom.” According to Mr. Tyagnybok, despite the consistent effort to destroy the Ukrainian army made by the previous government, the Ukrainian military men are demonstrating their courage and ability to protect their land.

“Sooner or later, Russia will start coercing Ukraine into making political concessions in the form of dual citizenship, second official language, permission to accommodate military bases in Ukraine etc., and we have no right to agree to that!”, said Oleg Tyagnybok.

“We have to hold presidential election and have a legitimate president as soon as possible because it is Russia who first of all benefits from the absence of a president and they will resort to various methods to sabotage the election due on 25 May this year”, added the leader of the Svoboda party.

Commenting on the allegations of Russian politicians about fascism in Ukraine, the Member of Parliament said: “Russia’s thoughtless propaganda has failed to show Svoboda as fascist so they couldn’t come up with anything better than accusing the entire Ukrainian nation of fascism. There is a sound patriotism in Ukraine, we love what belongs to us and respect what belongs to others. ”
