The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine is getting ready to participate in Invictus Games sports competition that will take place in Toronto this September.

The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine is getting ready to participate in Invictus Games sports competition.  This year it will take place in Toronto, Canada in September. The representatives of Ukraine will participate in archery, track and field, exercise rowing, power lifting, cycling and swimming, said Colonel Oksana Havryliuk, head of communications and mass media department at the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine at a press briefing at Ukraine Crisis Media Center.

This is an international sports competition for troops and veterans with disabilities sustained during service which have been held since 2014. Teams from NATO member states and partners participate in the competition, ” she explained. At present the Ministry of Defense processed 186 applications from candidates to participate in the games, including 26 applications from the Ukrainian Armed Forces troops.

Testing of candidates to select the participants will take place on January 20 – February 4 at three sports training areas of educational institutions of the Ministry of Defense. A selection tour will take place at Summer sports training area in Lviv on January 21, on January 28 in Kyiv and on February 4 in Odesa. “The Ministry of Defense has developed a training plan in cooperation with the National Sports Committee for the Disabled and Invictus Games coordination center in Ukraine. The issues of financial, medical and functional support are being solved,” said Col. Havryliuk.
