Since the last recommitment to the ceasefire that came into effect on March 30, OSCE Special Monitoring Mission recorded 1,721 ceasefire violations in eastern Ukraine. “Overall, last week the OSCE SMM recorded over 5,000 ceasefire violations. […] Compared to this time last year, the number represents progress, albeit slow progress,” reported Alexander Hug, Principal Deputy Chief Monitor of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine, at a press-briefing at Ukraine Crisis Media Center.

Last week, OSCE SMM representatives held an informal meeting with civilians in Donetsk. “About 40 people were present there – male and female, young and older ones, of different professional background. All of them had one concern – the ongoing violence, and the need to stop it. There were also exchanges in terms of the need for further interaction with the civilian population,” elaborated Alexander Hug.
