Ministry of Defense: Militants’ shells hit two residential buildings in Avdiivka causing no fatal casualties

Two civilians, one of them underage, were injured. Ukrainian Armed Forces incurred no losses and four troops were wounded. One volunteer died.

Russian proxies continued intensive lengthy attacks using mortar launchers and tanks in Avdiivka. Militants’ shells hit two residential buildings. “One of these incidents resulted in major destruction of two storeys in a block of flats and caused fire. Two people, one of them underage, were injured. There were no fatal casualties. Law enforcement officers and doctors continue providing qualified aid,” informed the spokesman of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine on ATO related issues Colonel Oleksandr Motuzyanyk at a press briefing at Ukraine Crisis Media Center.

In addition of Avdiivka, militants were shelling Zaitseve and Verkhniotretske from mortars. The situation was also restless in the vicinity of the Donetsk airport. One shooting attack took place in Novoluhanske. The ceasefire held at the Svitlodarsk bulge. In total, Russia-backed militant groups violated the armistice 30 times in the Donetsk sector, using heavy weapons 14 times.

In the Mariupol sector, the situation escalated in the Volnovakha district. “Several positions of our troops – Trudivske, Starohnativka and Novohryhorivka – were simultaneously shelled from hostile cannons and mortar launchers. Several pieces of automotive equipment of Ukrainian troops were damaged by bombs,” informed the spokesman. The situation was also restless in Pavlopil-Shyrokyne frontline area, where militants used mortar launchers and armor. One mortar attack took place in Krasnohorivka. Moreover, insurgents shelled Mariinka checkpoint. In total, Russia-backed militant groups conducted 35 attacks in the Mariupol sector.

Militants violated the ceasefire eight times in the Luhansk sector. Militants were shooting from mortar launcher and anti-tank guided missile system. A series of armed provocations took place in the Popasna district, and one more attacks happened in Stanytsia Luhanska.

“Ukrainian Armed Forces incurred no losses in combat in the last 24 hours, and four troops were wounded. Moreover, one volunteer died,” informed Col. Motuzyanyk.
