Ukraine strikes secret base of Russia’s Rubikon elite drone unit in Donetsk

Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces carried out a series of mid-range strikes against Russian military assets in occupied Donetsk region overnight on Wednesday, the military branch said in a post to social media.

Its long-range drones struck a secret base of Russia’s Rubikon elite drone unit and its command and control element in Donetsk. The coordination center for unmanned technologies based in the city was also hit.

The Special Operations Forces also struck depots of ammunition, materiel and equipment as well as an ammunition distribution point in the village of Vilne in Donetsk region.

Members of an underground movement of resistance contributed to the strikes, the military said.

Russian airstrike on Kramatorsk injures eight, including two children

Russia carried out an airstrike on the city of Kramatorsk in Donetsk region overnight on Wednesday, injuring eight residents, including two children, head of the city’s military administration, Oleksandr Honcharenko said in a post to social media.

Russia dropped two FAB-250 aerial bombs on the city, damaging at least three dozen private homes and two multi-story apartment buildings, he added. The full consequences of the attack are being assessed.

A Russian drone attack on Sumy on Wednesday morning injured a 16-year-old boy, local authorities said. Russia targeted a non-residential building in the Zarichnyi district of Sumy, head of the regional military administration, Oleh Hryhorov said in a post to Telegram. The strike blew off the windows in the building and ignited a fire. Ukraine’s Ground Forces told news site Ukrainska Pravda that the damaged building hosted a military recruitment center that had earlier moved to a different place and at the time of the strike was not holding recruitment.

A 16-year-old boy injured in the attack was at a public transportation stop when a drone hit nearby. He sustained light injuries and was taken to hospital. His injuries are not life-threatening, Hryhorov said.

Growing number of Ukrainians favor elections only after war ends, poll finds

A majority of Ukrainians (69 per cent) say that elections should take place only after the final peace deal is struck and the war ends, a survey conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology between March 1 and March 8 found.

In December 2025, 59 per cent were of the same opinion.

Only 12 per cent of Ukrainians favor the vote while the war is still raging, the pollster said on Wednesday in a memo releasing the results. Throughout 2025, the share ranged from 10 per cent to 12 per cent.

Thirteen per cent support the idea of elections after a ceasefire with security guarantees. The share dropped significantly since December 2025 when it was 23 per cent.

The survey was conducted through computer-assisted telephone interviews (CATI), using a random sample of cell phone numbers. The total sample of the poll consists of 1,003 Ukrainians ages 18 and older who live in government-controlled Ukrainian territory. Some of the respondents are internally displaced. The pollster did not speak to Ukrainians who left the country after the invasion.
