Defense Ministry Spokeswoman: “Support the Ukrainian Army” campaign collected over UAH 152 million

Kyiv, 19 December 2014 – over UAH 152 million (approx. USD 9,2 million) were donated by the citizens through “Support the Ukrainian Army” campaign as of  December 19, 2014. “UAH 140 million was used for material and technical assistance, the rest – for purchasing medical supplies. Out of UAH 140 million used for technical support, Defense Ministry used UAH 121 million to purchase the gear. As of today the Armed Forces of Ukraine have received around 43 thousand of sleeping bags, over 80 thousand pairs of regular and 3 thousand pairs of warm boots and around 9 thousand of bulletproof helmets purchased with the donations,” explained Viktoria Kushnir, spokeswoman of the Defense Ministry at a briefing at the Ukraine Crisis Media Center.

The amount of the charity donations for medical supplies to the Armed Forces of Ukraine constitutes over UAH 12 million. In addition to that NGOs and volunteers have provided the military medical units of the Armed Forces with medicine and medical equipment worth of over UAH 81 million.

Currently the status of the anti-terrorist operation (ATO) participant was granted to 3283 servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. “The Defense Ministry has prepared and submitted for consideration of the inter-agency commission of the State Service of Ukraine dealing with war veterans and ATO participants documents requesting the above mentioned status to be granted to 4574 more servicemen,” added spokeswoman of the Defense Ministry.
