Ukraine strikes Russian oil depot, dispatch station

The Ukrainian military struck the Grushovaya oil depot in Russia’s Krasnodar Krai and the Krasnyi Yar linear production dispatch station in the Volgograd region on Sunday and overnight on Monday, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said Monday.

The strike ignited a fire at the Grushovaya oil depot. The facility is part of the Sheskharis oil terminal in southern Russia where major oil pipelines end. It stores oil and oil products that are shipped from the sea port of Novorossiysk. Its storage tanks have an overall capacity of around 1.4 million cubic meters.

The Krasnyi Yar linear production dispatch station in the Volgograd region caught fire after a drone attack. The facility is part of two strategic oil pipeline routes — one runs toward the Volgograd oil refinery and the other to the Sheskharis oil terminal in Novorossiysk through the Kuybyshev-Tikhoretsk oil pipeline, the General Staff said.

Ukrainian troops also struck a radar system near Kabardinka in the Krasnodar region, drone control points near Novobohdanivka and Novoivanivka in Zaporizhzhia region, Voskresenka in Donetsk region and Cherkasskaya Konopelka in Russia’s Kursk region. They also hit a repair workshop of a Russian unit near Burchak in Zaporizhzhia region, materiel warehouses near Vasylivka in Zaporizhzhia region and Zelene Pole in Donetsk region as well as troop concentrations near Berestok in Donetsk region, Stepnohirsk in Zaporizhzhia region and Basivka in the region of Sumy.

The General Staff also released an update on the results of a strike on the Ust-Labinskaya oil depot on June 6. The attack damaged the loading rack, fuel tanks and two reservoirs with fuel.

Ukraine retakes almost 100 square kilometers more land in May than Russia seizes, Ukraine’s army chief says

Ukraine liberated almost 100 square kilometers more land in May than it lost to Russia, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, General Oleksandr Syrskyi said in a post to social media Monday. Ukrainian forces have recaptured more than 600 square kilometers of land this year, he added.

“Despite the adversary’s constant pressure, the Armed Forces of Ukraine continue to firmly hold the defensive lines, destroy the occupying [force] and deliver efficient strikes on the enemy in operational and strategic depth. These are the main results of our military activities in May that we analyzed at our monthly meeting,” Syrskyi said.

The situation across the front lines remains complex and dynamic, he also said. Russian forces do not stop attempts to advance in Ukraine’s east and south. The number of combat engagements has largely increased with the most intense battles being fought in the Pokrovsk, Oleksandrivka and Hulyaipole directions.

“At the same time Ukraine’s defense forces maintain the initiative in separate sections [of the front line]. A ratio of liberated to lost territories in May resulted in almost 100 square kilometers to our benefit. More than 600 square kilometers in total have been liberated since the beginning of the year,” Syrskyi said.

Last month, Ukrainian forces also carried out thousands of efficient strikes against Russian military sites. Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces hit more than 88,000 targets and took out more than 30,500 Russian troops, Syrskyi said, citing the military branch’s count. Ukraine continued to systematically destroy Russia’s command posts and arsenals through short- and mid-range strikes.

In May, Ukrainian forces struck 111 sites of the military-industrial sector and energy and fuel facilities that supply the Russian army.

“Direct and indirect economic losses that [Ukraine’s] deep-strike campaign inflicted on the adversary in May amount to around 1.058 billion dollars,” Syrskyi said.

Ukraine has for the first time carried out a series of successful strikes on the sites of the military-industrial and fuel and energy sectors in Moscow and the surrounding region, he continued. It comes as yet another confirmation of Ukraine’s capacity to inflict palpable losses on the enemy far behind the front lines.

The Ukrainian Navy carried out around 1,500 activities in May that secured the passage of 633 ships to the ports in and around Odesa, and ones on the Danube River.

French fighter jets shoot down drone over Latvia that was jammed by Russia

French fighter jets deployed to NATO air policing mission from Šiauliai Air Base in Lithuania shot down a drone that entered Latvian airspace on Monday, Lithuanian public broadcaster LRT said.

The Latvian military announced on Monday morning a potential threat in the airspace over the municipalities of Rēzekne, Ludza, Balvi and Alūksne in the country’s east, near the Russian border. The threat was assigned the orange level which is issued for confirmed air threats. Residents were instructed to take cover.

The Latvian army said the drone entered from Russia as a result of Russian electronic warfare.
