Ukraine stands in solidarity with Israel. Around six million people in Ukraine are facing the threat of mines, Ukraine’s Prime Minister says. Russia gave Hamas captured Western-made weapons to discredit Ukraine, Ukraine’s intelligence says.
Hamas and Russia are “same evil”, Zelenskyi says, addressing NATO Parliamentary Assembly
Speaking via video link at a meeting of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly in Copenhagen, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi called on the allies to stand united against terrorism. He also drew a parallel between Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and Hamas’s attack on Israel.
“The same evil, and the only difference is that there is a terrorist organization that attacked Israel, and here is a terrorist state that attacked Ukraine,” Zelenskyi said.
Israeli journalists who are covering Russia’s war in Ukraine and exposing Russia’s atrocities, say they now see the same evil in their home country, the Ukrainian President said.
Zelenskyi also took aim at Iran, emphasizing its role in Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and Hamas’ assault on Israel.
“Iran can’t deny responsibility for what is going on in Ukraine when it sells Shahed drones to Russia. And Iran can’t deny responsibility in Israel when its officials claim support of what is going on in Israel,” he said.
“How far can such evil go? No further than we allow it to. Our unity must and can stop the evil. Our desire for peace, not their desire for blood, should determine how the world lives. Our rules-based international order, and not their attempts to make death a rule,” Zelenskyi said.
Hinting at the U.S. without naming it directly, Zelenskyi said: “This is not the time to withdraw from the international arena into internal disputes. This is not the time to isolate ourselves. This is not the time to remain silent or pretend that terror on one continent does not affect global affairs.”
“Europe should be active. The United States should be active. China. India. Arab states should feel how much can collapse if they allow terrorists to achieve their goals. Türkiye. Brazil and all of Latin America. Japan. Australia. Canada. African countries. Central Asian countries. Korea. Pakistan. Indonesia. The Caribbean. The Pacific states. Everyone should be active in the defense of life and international law! We must not give terror a single chance,” he said.
Around six million people in Ukraine face threat of mines, Ukraine’s Prime Minister says
Around six million people in Ukraine are facing the threat of mines, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said at a government event. “Expert analysis shows that mine contamination threatens the life and health of around six million people in Ukraine.”
Around 250 people have been killed by mines in Ukraine, and more than 500 others were injured or maimed. If no measures are taken or standard technologies are applied, around nine thousand more people will be injured or killed by mines in Ukraine,” Shmyhal said.
According to earlier reports, Ukraine will need at least ten years to clear all the mines and explosives from its land laid there since Russia’s full-scale invasion.
Russia gave Hamas captured Western-made weapons to discredit Ukraine, Ukraine’s intelligence says
Russia has given Hamas “trophy weapons” manufactured in the U.S. and EU, that were captured during the fighting in Ukraine. Ukraine’s intelligence warned that Russia was plotting a campaign to discredit Ukraine in a bid to undermine the allies’ support for Ukraine and disrupt weapons supply.
The Main Intelligence Department of Ukraine’s Defense Ministry said on Monday: “The aggressor state Russia is using the Hamas terrorist attack on the state of Israel to carry out a large-scale provocation against Ukraine.”
Ukraine’s defense intelligence said that the Russian intelligence department (GRU) had given Hamas “trophy weapons manufactured in the USA and EU states that were captured during the fighting in Ukraine.”
“As a next step, Russia plans to falsely blame the Ukrainian military for allegedly selling Western-made weapons to terrorists on a regular basis,” the statement reads.
Those fake reports are to be followed by “revealing articles” and “investigations” by Western media, the Ukraine’s defense intelligence added.
