Russia-backed militants committed 24 ceasefire violations in eastern Ukraine yesterday and used tanks and mortars alongside other types of weapons. Ukrainian troops returned fire 18 times using weapons not proscribed under the Minsk agreements, reported Ukrainian Ministry of Defense spokesman on ATO Oleksandr Motuzyanyk at a press briefing at Ukraine Crisis Media Center.

In Luhansk sector, Russian proxies made 11 attacks. “The hottest spot was near Luhanske where the enemy delivered five attacks over the last day. Militants fired twenty-nine 82-mm and 120-mm rounds and were actively using grenade launchers and heavy machine guns,” Colonel Motuzyanyk said. Russia-backed militants discharged 20 mortar rounds of various calibers near Novooleksandrivka, and fired six 120-mm rounds near Triokhizbenka. Near Troitske Russian proxies fired twelve 82-mm mortar rounds and made an extensive use of IFV mounted weapons, machine guns, and small arms. Militants used an IFV near Svitlodarsk as well. Ukrainian troops returned fire from grenade launchers and IFV mounted weapons.

In Donetsk sector, Russia-backed militants conducted 13 attacks, six of these took place near Maryinka. “The enemy was active there for several hours using a tank, 82-mm and 120-mm mortars, grenade launchers, and small arms,” the ATO spokesperson said. Militants also violated the ceasefire in Kamianka, Vodiane, Pisky, Lebedynske, Verkhniotoretske, and Talakivka areas. Ukrainian troops returned fire.

Unfortunately, four Ukrainian troops were wounded in action: two near Maryinka, another two in Pisky and Luhanske areas.
