Ministry of Defense: Russian proxies commit 63 ceasefire violations, use heavy mortars and artillery

Yesterday, Russia-backed militants delivered 63 precision attacks in eastern Ukraine and used heavy mortars and artillery in some of them. “Attacks were recorded all along the contact line; the militants maintain the previously established intensity of hostilities,” reported Ministry of Defense spokesman Colonel Dmytro Hutsulyak at a press briefing at Ukraine Crisis Media Center.

In Luhansk sector, Russian proxies violated the ceasefire 30 times. They used 122-mm artillery near Svitlodarsk, and 120-mm and 82-mm mortars in Zalizne, Zaitseve, Krymske, Luhanske, Novohorodske, Novoluhanske, Svitlodarsk, Travneve, and Troitske areas. The militants fired a total of five artillery rounds and over 220 mortar rounds. “The enemy actively employed grenade launchers, small arms, and IFV mounted weapons,” added Colonel Hutsulyak.

In Donetsk sector, Russia-backed militants delivered 33 attacks on Ukrainian positions. They mostly used small arms, heavy machine guns, and grenade launchers. Hostile attacks were recorded near Avdiivka, Vodiane, Verkhniotoretske, Hnutove, Kamianka, Krasnohorivka, Maryinka, Pavlopil, Talakivka, Taramchuk, Shyrokyne, and Shakhta Butovka. Near Verkhniotoretske, the militants fired twenty 82-mm mortar rounds.

Ukrainian troops returned fire 30 times over the past day. Unfortunately, two Ukrainian servicemen were wounded in action yesterday.

Between 00:00 and 11:00 of May 14, Russian proxies delivered 13 precision attacks on Ukrainian positions. They used 120-mm mortars near Zaitseve and Zalizne, and 82-mm mortars in Zolote and Pisky areas, having fired a total of 50 mortar rounds. “Ukrainian positions near Zaitseve, Katerynivka, Novozvanivka (Luhansk sector), and Vodiane, Hnutove, Pisky, and Pishchevyk (Donetsk sector) came under the fire of hostile small arms, grenade launchers, and IFVs’ mounted weapons,” Ministry of Defense spokesman noted.
