Ukrainian media digest 30 of July 2014

Crimean Prime Minister Sergey Aksyonov has dismissed Rustam Temirgaliev from his post of advisor. “To declare the order of the head of the Crimean Republic from June 16, 2014” on the adviser of acting head of the Republic of Crimea Sergey Aksyonov” invalid”- reads the decree. Crimean vice Premier Rustam Temirgaliev sent in his resignation June 11.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has called on his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko to help arrange a meeting of a trilateral contact group in Minsk on July 31 to settle the situation in the east of Ukraine. Petro Poroshenko has announced his appeal to President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko for assistance in arranging a meeting in Minsk on July 31 of the trilateral contact group on the settlement of the situation in Donbas, including second president of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma, Russian Ambassador Mikhail Zurabov and an OSCE representative. Two issues are proposed to be discussed by the contact group – the release of all hostages captured by the militants, and ensuring the access for international experts to the Malaysian Airlines plane crash site.

Deputies of Crimean state council appointed Konstantin Bakharev the first deputy speaker. The following decision has been adopted at the special session of the Crimean parliament on 30 July. Grygory Ioffe who was his predecessor resigned as he had been appointed the head of the Public Chamber of Crimea.

Members of the Crimean State Council have passed the law on election of the head of the Crimean Republic. Three candidates for the post will be proposed by the Russian president. Local MPs will then have 20 days to study them and vote for each candidate separately. “Should no candidate gain enough votes, another round of voting will be organized for the two candidates with the most votes. The winner will head the republic for 5 years and have the authority of a member of the upper chamber of the Russian parliament,” the document states.

The former Mejlis leader, MP Mustafa Dzhemilev admitted to journalists that the battalion “Crimea” is forming in Ukraine.

Crimean authorities are not going to ban Mejlis of Crimean Tatar people, speaker of Crimean Parliament Vladimir Konstantinov said during the briefing, answering the question about government’s attitude to Mejlis.

Zaporizhzhya region’s prosecutor Oleksander Shackiy said he asked the court to strip the head of regional council Victor Mezheyko from his position for the investigating period of what happened when Maidan had been dissolved on 26 January. He said the court refused to grant a request.

Vinnytsia city organization of Batkivshchyna will initiate the dismissal of city’s mayor Volodymyr Hroysman as he holds two positions concurrently.

Svoboda party wants to reserve Lviv region and in return will give UDAR party two regions. It is likely to be Poltava and Kirovograd regions.
