National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine: ATO command defined humanitarian corridor for noncombatants

Kyiv, August 4, 2014  – ATO command defined humanitarian corridor for noncombatants’ retreat from Donetsk, Horlivka and Luhansk. It was a statement spokesman for Information and Analysis Center of National Security and Defence Council made during his media briefing in Ukraine Crisis Media Center. Ukrainian troops, apart from liberation of terrorists-occupied territories, are also applying every effort to face off threat from women, children, the elderly and everyone in need of protection. In compliance with International Humanitarian Law (law of war) standards, in the presence of combat activity local residents are to be provided with humanitarian corridors for retreat to safe areas. Such humanitarian corridors are prepared for retreat from Donetsk, Horlivka and Luhansk. From Donetsk: Leninskyi Avenue – ring road – Donetsk-Kurakhovo route through Maryinka, Dachne village. From Horlivka:  Lenin Avenue – Marshal Zhukov Street – Vitchyznyana Street – Plekhanov Street – Horlivka-Druzhkivka road through Dzerzhynsk. From Luhansk:  Radyanska Street – 16th Liniya Street – Frunze Street – Shevchenko Street – Komintern Street – Luhansk-Shchastya road through Metalist», – explained Andriy Lysenko.

Recently number of provocations and calls for protest actions has been increasing in the towns liberated from terrorists. «For the purposes of peaceful life resumption and counter terrorist activity on the basis of ATO headquarters in Mariupol a hotline was launched at the number: +38 (094) 837 18 05. Headquarters command is calling upon public to provide any relevant information pertaining to suspicious persons, representatives of unidentified military groups either committing illegal actions or inciting citizens to illegal actions. Any information pertaining to human rights violation both by military servicemen and local inhabitants, as well as reporting areas of concern connected with line of duty of military servicemen within ATO activity», – stated the spokesman of National Security and Defence Council.

According to information collected, at present 171 military servicemen of Armed Forces of Ukraine and 140 border guards are in Russian territory (311 overall), who due to external factors were made to cross over to the territory of the Russian Federation in the area of Hukovo border checkpoint. «Official Ukrainian authorities are making everything possible to bring our servicemen back», – added colonel Lysenko.

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko signed a Decree on distinguishing Ukrainian pilots and troopers who demonstrated courage and heroism during combat mission execution in ATO battleground with state decorations. «Lieutenant colonel Ruslan Plokhodko and lieutenant colonel Serhiy Rudenko who withdrew a shot up aircraft beyond Slovyansk town limits, saving noncombatants’ lives, have been decorated with First Class Bohdan Khmelnytskyi Order postmortem.  Colonel Serhiy Pozhydayev has been decorated with Second Class Bohdan Khmelnytskyi Order. Colonel Roman Dubynetskyi, colonel Dmytro Mymrykov, mayor Hryhoriy Sytnik, lieutenant colonel Maksym Fedorov and lieutenant Oleksandr Chorpita have been decorated with Third Class Bohdan Khmelnytskyi Order.  Captain Denys Rusinov, senior sergeant Serhiy Kozak, senior sergeant Oleksandr Ponomaryov, soldiers Yuriy Veselskyi and Serhiy Ilnytskyi have been decorated with Third Class Order “For Courage”. Colonel Oleh Nechyporuk has been decorated with Danylo Halytskyi Order», – informed Andriy Lysenko during the media briefing.

«There was information in mass media that in Stepativka settlement of Shakhtarsyi destrict in Donetsk region which borders with Russia terrorists as though captured an APC of the National Guard together with the crew. We officially inform that the information does not correspond with the reality. Not a single National Guard serviceman is captured», – emphasized Andriy Lysenko.
