This week, fighting raged all along the front lines. Russia continued to strike Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure far behind the front lines. On Wednesday, a Russian missile strike on central Chernihiv killed 18 and injured more than 60 others. A hospital and several apartment buildings were damaged in the attack.
Ukraine continues to strike military targets deep inside Russia and in the occupied territories. A Ukrainian attack on the Dzhankoy military air field in Crimea this week destroyed or critically damaged four S-400 air defense missile launchers, three radar stations, and other air defense equipment. Ukrainian drones also targeted Russia’s Container over-the-horizon radar in Mordovia, around 680 kilometers from the border. According to President Zelenskyi, Ukraine’s defense industry will for the first time build 10 Bohdana self-propelled artillery systems in April, and will further increase its production capacity beginning in May.
France will invite Russian representatives to a ceremony commemorating the 80th anniversary of D-Day. China supports a Ukraine peace summit, but says both Russia and Ukraine need to participate in it. U.S. House speaker, Mike Johnson, has said long-awaited votes on aid for Ukraine will take place on Saturday. Earlier this month, President Zelenskyi warned that Ukraine “will lose the war” against Russia if Congress does not pass further assistance for the country.
Russian missile attack on Dnipro and surrounding region kills 9, including three children, injures at least 25 others
A major Russian missile strike on Friday killed 9 people in the city of Dnipro and injured 16 others. In the Synelnykivskyi district of the region, six people died in the attack, including two children ages six and eight. Two more people were injured, Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko said.
“The Air Force took down some of the enemy’s aerial targets. According to preliminary reports, nine missiles were destroyed in the morning alone and two more were shot down at night. More details will follow. Unfortunately, [some of the missiles] hit targets,” head of the Dnipropetrovska regional military administration Serhiy Lysak said. At least 25 people were injured in the attack on the region, he added.
