At the end of 2023, EESC President Oliver Röpke launched the initiative to establish the status of Enlargement Candidate Members to engage civil society representatives more actively in EESC activities. This is an honorary title that shows support and respect for the civil society representatives in the EU candidate countries without granting them EESC member status.
