Announcement of the launch of an application to collect information about evidence of crimes under international law committed in Ukraine and information about war victims, created in the framework the Sunflower project
The Sunflowers Project is intended to complement the activities of national authorities and international tribunals established to prosecute and adjudicate war crimes, crimes against humanity, genocide, aggression or other serious human rights violations related to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and to support bodies involved in reparation proceedings. The number of potential witnesses of crimes committed in Ukraine is enormous, as is the number of people harmed by these crimes. No justice system can cope with such a huge amount of information available to these people. However, it is important to gather as much information as possible about evidence of these crimes and their victims. That is why the application was created to help the relevant authorities collect the necessary information. The information are collected in a secure database specially created for this purpose, based on voluntary testimonies from potential witnesses and victims. In such a way, by supporting competent international and national authorities, tribunals, and bodies involved in the implementation of reparations projects, the Sunflowers Project contributes to bringing justice to the victims of the war in Ukraine and strengthening the belief that the perpetrators of these crimes will not escape responsibility.
