Today marks the World Press Freedom Day, and this year “Information as a Public Good” has been chosen as the central theme. It emphasizes the importance of verified and reliable information while acknowledging the need to consolidate international efforts to combat disinformation and misinformation.
The COVID-19 pandemic, in particular, has underlined the essential role of free and professional media in disseminating information. And these very media are undermined by disinformation as it sows distrust towards independent journalism. This is just one of the ways disinformation attacks freedom of speech.
