How Social Media Censors Russian War in Ukraine

Since the start of Russia’s brutal war against Ukraine, the major social media platforms, instead of amplifying Ukrainian voices, caused obstacles to sharing the truth about Russian crimes. The mass blocking of Ukrainian users due to “hate speech” has caused outrage in Ukrainian society.

Just among the latest cases is the blocking of the Association of Azovstal Defenders’ Families’ Instagram account. The organization used the platform to keep the Azovstal defenders imprisoned by Russia on Ukraine’s and international agenda, in particular, calling on the ICRC and UN to prevent the sham tribunal targeting the Azov fighters.

Silencing the voices of Ukrainians defending their right to freedom is unacceptable, and the social networks must adapt their rules and standards to the new realities as soon as possible!
