Miscalculation by US Defense Dept. Provides Ukraine with An Additional $6.2 Billion’s Worth of Aid

US Defense Department’s overestimation of arms’ value provides Ukraine $6.2 billion in additional military aid. Pentagon spokesperson Sabrina Singh explained the discrepancy resulted from using replacement costs instead of net book value.

The final calculations show a $2.6 billion error in fiscal year 2022 and a $3.6 billion error in fiscal year 2023, leading to a revised security assistance estimate of approximately $34 billion for Ukraine, down from $40 billion.
