Ohmatdyt’s children affected by war

13-year-old Vova was admitted to our hospital on February 26. He and his family were trying to leave Kyiv when Russian soldiers shot their car. The boy’s father and his 6-year-old cousin died right away. The rest of his family were brought to Ohmatdyt for treatment.

Vova has a gunshot wound to the right half of his face, a fragmentation open fracture of the lower jaw, and a fragmentary fracture of the right cheekbone-orbital complex caused by the blast. Ohmatdyt’s doctors have performed a number of complex operations on the teenager. Vova needs a long rehabilitation to fully recover.

6-year-old Milana watched her mom dying right in front of her on February 28, when a Russian missile hit their house near Gostomel. The shell injured the girl’s legs, and her aunt’s foot was torn off by the explosion. Ohmatdyt’s doctors performed several surgeries on Milana. Milana’s father, who survived, doesn’t leave his little girl for a moment. He is now a widower left with two children – Milana and her 9-year-old brother Kostya.

Another Ohmatdyt’s little patient who received terrible injuries during the war is 7-year-old Varya from Irpin. She and her family tried to leave their hometown, which is constantly shelled by the Russian military, but Russian soldiers started shooting the civilians with mortars. Varya and her mother received severe shrapnel wounds on their legs. Ohmatdyt’s doctors are fighting for their health.

Make no mistake: Ukrainian children are dramatically affected by war. Little kids are dying and getting horrific injuries, both physical and mental ones. The world needs to know the truth! Russia must be stopped!
