Olena Kondratiuk, Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, reported on the reaction of Jean-Yves Le Drian, French Foreign Minister, to Russia’s possible use of chemical weapons in Ukraine – France is ready to react harshly to russia’s use of chemical weapons.
“If chemical weapons are used in Ukraine, there will be no doubt in France that it was the russian side that did it,” the French diplomat said in an interview with Le Parisien.
“If there is an attack with chemical or bacteriological weapons, we will understand who is behind it – that it is russia. The use of unconventional weapons will mean an unacceptable escalation and will require a “taboo-free reaction” in the form of absolutely large-scale and radical economic sanctions,” Le Drian said.
Olena Kondratiuk stressed that Ukraine faithfully adheres to the requirements of the Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production, Stockpiling, Use of Chemical Weapons and on Their Destruction. This convention was ratified by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in 1998.
