The Russian military has damaged or destroyed at least 630 religious buildings of different denominations since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. This was reported by the Institute for Religious Freedom. These religious buildings were mainly damaged by rockets, kamikaze drones and artillery. In addition, some churches and houses of prayer were looted, closed or turned into ‘administrative buildings’ in accordance with the requirements of the occupation authorities.
Most religious buildings were affected in Donetsk (at least 146), Luhansk (at least 83) and Kherson (at least 78) regions. As a result of the ongoing hostilities, the number of destroyed buildings is increasing in Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, and Mykolaiv regions
