Ru media support Chinese national security law

This clip from #Russian media about the #HongKong protests should be examined closely for a couple of reasons.

Firstly, the alleged experts go out of their way to prove some of most common narratives “protests are sponsored from the US”, “protests are organized from within the country of origin”, which is a favorite #Kremlin tactic of discrediting any sort of protest activity, both in Russia itself and outside it.

They never mention the company they are describing as the one allegedly “sponsoring the protests”, but Russian media were known to blame National Endowment for Democracy – a reputable non-profit organization, intent on strengthening democratic institutions around the world.

The audience is led to believe that there are no genuine grassroots protests, since conspiracy and manipulation is heavily employed to describe protesting activity as orchestrated by some sinister forces willing to destabilize the region and this portrayal benefits the authoritarian regime.

Secondly, Russian media here wholeheartedly support and whitewash new highly controversial national security law, adopted by the Chinese government.

This legal act gives #China unprecedented powers over Hong Kong and severely undermines the old ‘one country, two systems’ principle, while threatening all pro-democratic activists in the region.
