Russian Fakes Amid Escalation

Since February 16-17, Russia has been pouring outstanding flows of fake news about Ukraine and its Armed Forces into the Kremlin-controlled media space, and yesterday it became clear exactly what the Russian propaganda was constructing the picture for.

Russia officially declared that the parts of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions it has occupied since 2014 are not part of Ukraine but “independent” and started the military intervention there under the guise of “peacekeeping”. This means yet another open attack on Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

How the Kremlin’s propaganda machine carefully constructed the parallel reality for its citizens (because no one outside believes those lies anyway) to portray Ukraine as an “aggressor”, we look in a new series of infographics.
