The project “Shady Horses“ delves into investigating Russian propaganda dissemination within Western countries through prominent individuals, often referred to as “talking heads.”
By analyzing the influence and messaging of these figures, the project seeks to shed light on persons, usually, top politicians and high ranked experts, who stay behind disseminating Russian propaganda in different countries, to highlight the way how they falsify public opinion, in the favor of Russia.
Igor Dodon has often emerged as a prominent voice within Russian propaganda circles. His rhetoric frequently echoed Moscow’s viewpoints, portraying him as a staunch advocate for closer ties between Moldova and Russia. His emphasis on traditional values, pro-Russian stances, and criticism of Western influence aligned well with the narratives propagated by Russian media.
Critics often viewed his statements and actions as attempts to further Moscow’s regional interests, potentially undermining Moldova’s aspirations for greater European integration.
So who is this shady horse of Russian propaganda?
Who are they? Former President of Moldova, Igor Dodon
Where are they from? Moldova
Political affiliation? Leader of the pro-Russian Moldovan Party of Socialists
What have they been saying?
“Can the Ukrainians attack Transnistria? Yes, they can – under either silent or open consent from Maia Sandu”

“Moldova is not a sovereign nation. I believe that most citizens will agree that the current leadership of the republic works under orders from Western puppeteers”

“Participation in the NATO summit is categorically unacceptable – Moldova is being drawn into an arms race against the East. It is a threat to Moldova’s security. We don’t need NATO weapons here, we don’t need NATO soldiers. We must stay neutral and preserve peace on our territory.”

“President Maia Sandu and Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita should set aside their pride and urgently head to Moscow to agree a lower price for gas like the leadership of Hungary… which pays a much better price than Moldova”

“I regard Putin as a peacemaker.” I’m not going to rate Americans right now because the experts talked about what they did and are doing, how they crawled everywhere and got a response – the democracy they sow everywhere has “returned home.”

“Maia Sandu tries to silence those who criticize. And so the repression begins. They begin by repressing opposition leaders. First, they shut me down, then Tauber. Tauber, for all her problems, communicates with the people. She is honest. And Sandu? A liar who, behind the mask of Soros, tries to explain something to the people.”

“Americans, ‘Sorosyata’ (a derogatory term used to refer to supporters of George Soros – HWAG), and NGOs want to subjugate all media outlets in Moldova and control the Moldovan judiciary. At the head of the Prosecutor’s Office, National Anti-corruption Center, and Information and Security Service are former employees of non-governmental organizations, Soros Foundation, directly controlled by Western embassies”.

”I do not believe Moldova will join the EU anytime soon. Perhaps the European Union will cease to exist within the next 5-8 years. Bulgaria’s pro-European government was dismissed the day before, and political crises are only intensifying”

“We have decided to support Uzun (the regional politician for UTA Gagauzia, Moldovan autonomy, who is backed by the Dodon political party in local elections – HWAG)… Unlike the current Moldovan government, which has openly declared its intention to sever ties with Russia and the CIS, he recognises that, while expanding cooperation with the EU and other countries is important, we must maintain a strategic partnership with the East. Hundreds of thousands of our compatriots work there, with whom we share the Orthodox faith, traditions, centuries-old friendship, and cooperation in the economy, culture, and other areas.”

“I am certain that we need to be friends with Russia. Not against Europe, but without Russia, we will not survive, because we need that market, we need cheap diesel fuel, cheap gas. I want to urge you, do not give up, everything will be fine, we will break through. Ours (russian friends – HWAG) are on their way”.

“Export restrictions will hit the agro-industrial complex of Moldova very painfully, which is 70% oriented to CIS markets, particularly Russia. These are apples, wine, grapes, and other fruits and vegetables, and we have no other market for the quantities we produce.”

“Sending military aid to a neutral country during a nearby war is a very negative signal. We know that a large amount of goods used in Ukraine’s war are being supplied through Moldova. I am confident that this does not align with the neutral status of the Republic of Moldova.”
