Moscow’s multiple acts of aggression against the rest of the world are the cause of a diplomatic backlash. The Western world does not wish to concede to the Kremlin’s politics, causing Russia to be excluded from the major diplomatic events. In an attempt to salvage its reputation, Russia is bolstering its “alternative” to the UN – the BRICS summit.
The Russian propaganda has showcased this event as an absolute success and a possible future rival to Western diplomatic initiatives. The content of the summit, however, differs from the picture. Sergey Lavrov, Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs, was especially successful, throwing slurs at workers and picking his nose during speeches, representing the finest parts of Russian diplomacy.
